40/40 Unlock Master strategy guide

Introduction

The "Unlock Master" Easter egg is earned by completing 40/40 unlocks by yourself in a single game, proving that you've mastered Set 16.

This guide shows one tried and tested method to achieve it in Tocker's Trials. All it takes is a little skill and a lot of luck!

Things to know about Tocker's Trials (PvE mode)

  • No encounters or carousels.

  • 3 stages with 10 rounds each, all counted as player combat.

  • Augment tiers: Gold-Gold-Prismatic unless you take Advanced Loan.

  • Free gold and at least one free reroll each round.

  • Interest can be earned, but no gold for winning or streaking.

  • Only 3 lives total.

  • Many component/item/anvil drops throughout the game, including a chance of Spatulas/Pans.

  • Bard, Brock, Nasus, Renekton and Xerath have modified unlock conditions in this mode.

  • Maximum game time is 90 minutes.

Core strategy

This strategy relies on these three things which ALL must happen for the run to be successful:

  • Must get Trials of Twilight (Xin Zhao/Zaahen) as the first augment.

  • Must be able to make a Tactician's item from your Stage 1+2 item drops.

  • Must get 2× Tactician's Crown cashout from Ixtal.

These are completely dependent on RNG, so you are forced to start a new run if you don't get them.

Stage 1

  • Play Void and Shadow Isles ASAP and don't forget to unlock Bard.

  • Pick the Trials of Twilight augment (but don't play or hold Xin Zhao).

Stage 2

  • Continue stacking Shadow Isles souls to unlock Thresh.

  • Play Ixtal and cashout when you have 625 Sunshards.

  • Equip all three Tactician's items on the same unit to activate the infinite gold fountain Easter Egg.

  • After cashout: reroll Xin Zhao, Neeko, Yasuo to 3★ to unlock Zaahen, Nidalee, Yone.

Stage 3

  • Level to 10 so you have 13 slots.

  • Pivot to 7 Bilgewater ASAP to farm Silver Serpents to unlock Tahm Kench.

  • Play Azir for 2 rounds to unlock Nasus, then 4 rounds to unlock Renekton.

  • Make sure you built 1× Gargoyle Stoneplate, 2× Rabadon's Deathcap, 2× Omnivamp items during the game to unlock Skarner, Veigar, Aatrox.

  • Mix and match remaining unlocks freely while playing 7 Bilgewater.

Rationale

  • A lot of gold is needed to 3★ Xin Zhao, Neeko, Yasuo and still make it to level 10 for Baron. Getting infinite gold allows you to roll for them later instead of griefing your econ and staying on level 6/7.

  • Brock requires 600 Sunshards to unlock in this mode (500 in standard TFT), so you might as well go for the 625 cashout.

  • Unlocking Rift Herald, Thresh, Brock and Tahm Kench requires many turns of playing their traits. Bilgewater is done last because you need a lot of team slots, which is much easier with three Tactician's items.

  • Unlocking Nasus is one of the hardest quests in this mode (win with two or less units alive). My strategy is to play a 3★ legendary unit, which requires a lot of gold (or Ixtal) to hit.

Stage 1 — Void + Shadow Isles

These are the only units you buy until you cashout Ixtal (unless you have a FoN):

  • Jarvan IV (sell 2★ for Sylas unlock).

  • Kog'Maw, Rek'Sai, Cho'Gath for Rift Herald unlock

  • Viego, Yorick, Gwen, Kalista for Thresh unlock.

  • Qiyana, Neeko, Milio for Brock unlock and Ixtal cashout.

Hold all Viego/Qiyana copies because you'll need at least one 3★ to survive Stage 2.

Playing early 3 Ixtal is not recommended, but hold the units.

Stage 1 round by round

  • 1-2 — Play 2 Void if you got a Void drop from 1-1. I prefer Kog'Maw + Rek'Sai.

  • 1-3 — Use all free rerolls to play 2 Void + 2★ Viego (use duplicator if needed). Slam items on Viego to unlock Yorick.

  • 1-4 — Level to 4, play 2 Void + 2 Shadow Isles.

  • 1-5 — First augment round

    • Restart game if you aren't offered Trials of Twilight augment.

    • Use all free rerolls + 2 paid rerolls to unlock Bard.

  • 1-6 onwards — Stay on Void + Shadow Isles, adding Gwen once she's unlocked.

    • Save rerolls if possible but upgrade your board as necessary to avoid losses.

    • Level to 6 on 1-9 if possible.

  • 1-10 — The 3★ Tryndamere boss is strong even if you have antiheal.

    • If you played 2 Void since 1-3, you will unlock Rift Herald after this fight.

Stage 2 — Ixtal + Shadow Isles

The main goal here is to activate the infinite gold fountain from having all three Tactician's items.

  • Earn 625 Sunshards from Ixtal for Brock and the 34% chance of the 2× Tactician's Crown cashout.

  • Get 2× Spatula/Pan from your item drops (or the U.R.F. augment) by the end of Stage 2.

  • Save your reforgers or take the Pandora's Items augment to get all three unique Tactician's items.

  • If you haven't achieved infinite gold by 3-1, you should restart the game.

The other goal is to unlock Thresh ASAP so you can stop playing Shadow Isles units.

Stage 2 notes

  • Stop playing Void even if you haven't unlocked Rift Herald yet.

  • Level to 6 and roll for Neeko/Milio if you haven't already.

  • Play 3 Ixtal 3+ Shadow Isles until you cashout Ixtal.

  • Take hard reroll quests (15 rerolls) because they are the most efficient.

  • Upgrade your whole board to save HP, don't greed econ since you will have infinite later.

    • Most dangerous rounds: 2-3 (Kennen), 2-7 (Gwen), 2-8 (MF).

  • You should unlock Kalista before second augment, Thresh by end of Stage 2.

    • After unlocking Thresh, sell all Shadow Isles units.

  • Cashout Ixtal ASAP when you have between 625 and 699 Sunshards.

    • Restart game if you didn't get the 2× Tactician's Crown cashout.

    • After cashout, sell Qiyana and Milio.

  • Once you have the infinite gold fountain, reroll at level 6/7 until you have 3★ Xin Zhao, Neeko, Yasuo.

  • Level to 10 and play:

    • 3★ Xin Zhao (5 combats), Neeko, Yasuo to unlock Zaahen, Nidalee, Yone + Kennen.

    • Shadow Isles if you still haven't unlocked Thresh yet.

    • Twisted Fate and 3/5 Bilgewater to start earning Serpents and unlock Graves and Fizz.

    • Draven to start stacking Adoration to unlock Darius.

Stage 3 — Bilgewater + Azir + remaining

The hard part of this stage is juggling 7 Bilgewater and the Azir quests.

  • 7 Bilgewater — play ASAP (need to unlock Graves/Fizz first).

    • Toggle down to lower levels to get Lucky Doubloon if you can.

    • Make sure your Bilgewater units are getting as many takedowns as possible.

  • Shurimans — their unlock quests are different in Tocker's Trials:

    • Nasus: Fielding Azir, win 2 combats with two or less units alive.

      • The absolute latest round you can start this quest is 3-4, but try to do it sooner in case you fail one round.

      • My strategy: Play only 1★ Azir and 3★ Shyvana, with soldiers at the front and champions at the back. Soldiers count as units so they must die.

      • If you didn't finish unlocking Zaahen before this, you will have to sell Xin Zhao and 3★ him again after unlocking Nasus.

    • Renekton: Fielding Azir, win 4 combats with six or more units alive.

      • Put 7 Bilgewater back in and finish other quests while doing this one.

    • Xerath: Sell 6 copies of Azir.

      • This is tracked over the whole game, not a single turn. Don't accidentally trigger it early!

      • You can sell-buy-sell etc if that's easier for you.

To avoid losing and to make each combat as efficient as possible, it's best to play at least one 3★ unit every round.

Stage 3 remaining quests

With 13+ slots at level 10, it's easy to mix quests freely while staying on 7 Bilgewater.

Don't forget to finish the Rift Herald quest if you didn't complete it on Stage 1.

  • Single-unit unlocks:

    • Poppy (any Demacian/Yordle with 2 items)

    • Tryndamere (Ashe with 2 items)

    • Darius (Draven drops 1 gold from his passive)

    • LeBlanc (Sion with 2 items)

    • Diana (2★ Leona with 3 items)

    • Kai'Sa (any Longshot with 3 items)

    • Mel (2★ Ambessa with 1 item dies in combat)

    • Ziggs (any Yordle/Zaunite with 3 items)

    • Most of these require 2+ items, so you can't do too many of these on the same turn.

  • Multi-unit unlocks:

    • Orianna (3 unique Piltovans, can unlock on same turn as T-Hex by playing 3× 3★ units)

    • Kobuko (6 unique Yordle/Bruiser/Invoker star levels, easy way is Illaoi + Fizz + 1)

    • Singed (4 unique Zaunites/Juggernauts)

    • Warwick (1★ Jinx + 2★ Vi, can easily combo with Singed/Ziggs unlocks)

  • Vertical unlocks:

    • Aurelion Sol (5 Targon)

    • Baron (7 Void, don't need to play in combat)

    • Galio (12 unique Demacia star levels, can achieve with 4× 3★ units)

    • T-Hex (9 unique Piltover star levels, can achieve with 3× 3★ units)

  • Item unlocks:

    • Skarner (Gargoyle Stoneplate)

    • Veigar (2× Rabadon's Deathcap)

    • Aatrox (2× Omnivamp items + another source if needed to reach 40%)

  • Other unlocks:

    • Sett, Volibear, Ryze, Sylas

Tips
  • Item priority:

    • Slam AD Fighter items early.

    • Antiheal is nice but only compulsory for 1-10 (3★ Tryndamere).

    • Save all open rods for Deathcap.

      • From late Stage 1 onward, use your component anvils to complete Deathcaps.

    • Stoneplate is quite easy to hit from item anvils later so don't save the components early.

  • Carries:

    • The comp is weak (no secondary traits) so you must upgrade and itemize multiple carries.

    • Stage 1: Viego (try to 3★) + Rek'Sai

    • Stage 2: Extra items go on Qiyana, Gwen, Milio

  • Time management:

    • 90 minutes is a lot but can fly by if you get decision paralysis or you're slow at rerolling.

    • Make sure you're familiar with the whole game plan and every unlock quest.

    • It's fine to spend a lot of time rolling during each planning phase on Stage 3, especially if you need to find and upgrade some low-cost units when you're level 10.

    • Fast APM is not required, just stay focused so you don't skip too many units.

  • Shadow Isles:

    • On Stage 1, frontline 1★ Kog'Maw to get more souls.

    • This trait has a bug/feature where you won't get souls for every unit that dies, which adds another layer of RNG.

  • Xin Zhao:

    • Never hold until you cashout Ixtal, he is too expensive and weak without Demacia/Ionia.

    • Same for Neeko (past 2★) and Yasuo.

  • Ixtal:

    • The quest armory timer (30 seconds) is invisible in this mode, so don't be AFK or wait too long to pick a quest.

    • See which quests are available and how they work here: https://littlebuddybot.com/ixtal-quests

  • Azir:

    • Nasus quest: Sell whole board (including 7 Bilgewater) and buy only base 5-costs until you hit 3★ Shyvana.

    • Don't buy more than one Azir (definitely don't 2★) until Nasus is unlocked, since you risk accidentally unlocking Xerath.
